FC Hartlepool Take Big Step in Playoff Race with Win Over Seaham

FC HARTLEPOOL 1 - 0 SEAHAM REDSTAR FC - Greyfields Enclosure 03.04.26

Late Gavin penalty secures crucial three points at Grayfields

FC Hartlepool took a significant step in their Northern League Division Two playoff push with a hard-fought 1โ€“0 victory over Seaham Red Star at Grayfields.

Played in challenging, gusty conditions, this was always going to be a contest decided by fine margins โ€” and thatโ€™s exactly how it unfolded.

Kick Off!

The game began with both sides battling not only each other but the conditions, as the wind disrupted rhythm and limited quality in the final third.

Chances were at a premium, although FC Hartlepool showed glimpses of attacking intent, going close through Davison and Appleby, while the Seaham goalkeeper was called into action.

At the other end, Harry Carr stood firm when required, ensuring the sides went into the break level.

0โ€“0 at half-time โ€” a fair reflection of a closely fought opening 45 minutes.

The second half followed a similar pattern โ€” competitive, tense, and lacking clear-cut opportunities as both teams remained disciplined and organised.

Seaham Red Star showed quality in spells, particularly out wide where their wingers remained a constant threat. At times, they looked the more fluid side in possession.

But FC Hartlepool stayed resilient.

The defining moment arrived late in the game.

After seeing an initial penalty go begging, FC were handed a second opportunity just moments later. This time, Tom Gavin stepped up and fired emphatically into the top corner, keeping his composure under pressure to break the deadlock.

It proved to be the decisive goal in a game where chances were scarce.

1-0 FC - Tom Gavin to the resure with a well taken penalty.
