No-nonsense centre-half brings strength and steel to the FC Hartlepool back line
We’re delighted to confirm that Scott Close has returned to Grayfields as our latest summer signing ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Scott is no stranger to FC Hartlepool. He played a pivotal role in our reserve team’s treble-winning season under manager Paul Beddows, helping the side lift three major trophies during a standout spell at the club. His performances were marked by leadership, physicality, and consistency — setting the tone at the back and earning respect across the dressing room.
Following his successful time in red and blue, Scott moved on to test himself in the Wearside League and Northern League, continuing to develop and prove himself against tough opposition. He now returns from Horden CW as a more experienced, more complete defender — and one ready to make an impact at first-team level.
Standing tall at the heart of the defence, Scott is known for his aerial presence, commanding style, and no-nonsense approach. He’s the type of defender who leads by example, and his return is a welcome boost as the club continues to build a strong, competitive squad for the season ahead.
Here’s why the club believes Close is the perfect fit for the back line
“Scott’s someone we know well and who knows what it means to wear the shirt. He brings grit, strength, and the right mentality. We’re pleased to bring him back to Grayfields.”
Welcome back, Scott — we look forward to seeing you in red and blue once again.
